Course content

ASANA – The Practice – As a teacher, it is important that you are dedicated to your own practice – This course will help you to strengthen not only your body, and your own asana form, but also really cultivate your love of this magical “way of Life”.    You will learn to understand each pose, the “why” of the pose, the correct alignment and when to modify a pose.

We will be working with the Ashtanga Primary sequence and the fundamentals (the “alphabet” of  Yoga). Once you know, and understand the Ashtanga sequence it gives you the freedom and knowledge to create your own sequences and flows safely.

PRANAYAMA + MEDITATION –  You will learn a variety of breathing techniques for you to bring into your own daily practice and how to encourage your students to create time to still and calm their mind.

The 8 LIMBS  – The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali (a text we will be using) refers to 8 limbs of Yoga, each of which offers guidance on how to live a meaningful and purposeful life. We will explore each Limb, and how we can incorporate them into our life. “Living Yoga off the mat”.

PHILOSOPHY –  A vast and fascinating subject – This course will focus on The Bhagavad Gita and The Yoga Sutras texts and how we can learn from their teachings today.

“It is better to live your own destiny imperfectly than to live an imitation of somebody else’s life with perfection. The power of Spirituality is with you at all times; through the activities of mind, senses, breathing, and emotions; and is constantly doing all the work using you as a mere instrument. A gift is pure when it is given from the heart to the right person at the right time and at the right place, and when we expect nothing in return”.

THE BHAGAVAD GITA – Gita is one of the most influential treatise in eastern philosophy. The Bhagavad Gita is the eternal message of spiritual wisdom from ancient India.

ANATOMY – Understanding and identifying the major bones, muscles, joints, and movements of the body will help you understand the benefits of each asana. Based on this functional anatomy, you will learn how to move your body and maintain proper alignment during the yoga poses.  This is really important for you as a teacher to be able to break the poses down and know how to adapt each pose to different bodies.

AYURVEDIC YOGIC FOODS –  Ayurveda is a form of holistic medicine that’s focused on promoting balance between your body and mind. We will explore how to find out what foods work for each individual body, and how we can eat for energy and for well being.  Ciara from Ciara’s Kitchen will show us how to create easy, nutritious and delicious vegan dishes.

ETHICS & BUSINESS – How to share your knowledge with students and if your goal is to teach – How to find your own teaching voice and style and create your own community of students.
